Seth Godin- Internet as Amplifier

The internet as envy amplifier

Used to be that the only Jones you needed to worry about was the one who lived next door.

Now, if you choose, it’s easy to find someone taller, richer, more successful, better liked, with more followers, online friends, connections and endorsements. And certainly it will be someone less deserving than you.

George Carlin liked to talk about the person (there’s always someone) who is worse off than you. The web allows you, with not much effort, to find the person who is better off.

Like many authors, I was briefly addicted to the Amazon bestseller list. Every hour, you can check how you’re doing. The problem (other than the insane non-productiveness of it) is how tricky “you” and “doing” are in that sentence. A number isn’t who you are, and your status compared to other people isn’t how you’re doing.

I’m not sure the goal needs to be to have more turtles under you than anyone else has. Some things are better left unsearched.

*** my own addition-

Sometime you need to focus on your own business.

We look at others and are not looking at what we can do.

Addicted to the Internet?

Remember when there were all those articles about being addicted to the internet?

No one is talking about that now, are they?

Why? Because most people have gotten over the novelty of being so connected by internet and realize we have to interact in real life too.

Touching people in a real way includes the internet. It’s not offline or online, it’s both.

How can you do more to stay connected both ways?

How does your business stay connected  without over-communication?

I want to hear your ideas!

CUJO is a smart firewall for the connected home, designed to bring business-level security to the home network. This one device will secure all devices connecting to the WiFi router. CUJO detects and blocks malicious sites, viruses, and hacks. Think of it like antivirus for your entire network. Plus, CUJO lets you control what your kids access online and keep them safe.

 MAIN FEATURES

•         BUSINESS-LEVEL INTERNET SECURITY

•         GUARDS ALL DEVICES

•         PARENTAL CONTROLS

•         CONNECT TO ROUTER, CONTROL WITH APP

•         BLAZING FAST (built with 1GB Ethernet)

Parental controls features:

                  – parental controls for all devices

                  – internet filter

                  – time limits

                  – social media monitoring

                  – pause internet

                  – alerts and reporting

                  – remote administration

                  – user profiles and settings

I got the product and downloaded the app. I will say it was super easy to set up. There were only two cords, the power cord and the connection to the internet. There is nothing else, not even an on-off button. The plug does have 2 pieces, so don’t get thrown off. They have a service to set it for you or they can talk you through set up on the phone. I was able to set it up without help. Once I registered on my device, I received a short email with the help lines. I had to update the firmware on my device. It protects all the devices in the house. Including the mobile phone. They can get viruses too! There are no subscription fees. Securing the house network is important and now Cujo makes it easy.

There are parental controls, so you can also stop access to the internet at certain times. All the reports will be on your mobile.
