How to Mess Up Your Mixer

After deciding to go to a local business mixer, I went to the online invitation and got directions. There was a link that said click for directions. I did that. The map that came up had a different street name and clearly was not the street. This was an event in my home town and I was pretty sure that was a residential area.

I called the person setting up the event to ask for directions and was immediately put on hold. I was on hold for about 5 minutes and then I just hung up. I was thinking, this might be a sign to change my mind about the event. I guess the guy had caller ID because he called back 15 minutes later asking for me. He then gave me directions. My friend and I get into the car and drive using his directions and still can not locate this place. We gave up and went to dinner.

I realize people do not want to work hard to come to your events. When you dont even have a webpage to promote it or correct directions, it can be really telling.

We all make mistake on our websites, clearly someone had programed it wrong. However, since there was no other reference in town to the event, it was almost impossible to want to go. A few things added to this. The speaker- I was told he was a motivational speaker. When I googled him, nothing came up. The business name and location. Nothing came up except a map location that did not match what I was told.

This is just a great example of making it hard to say yes.

Getting Some Action

I LOVE making lists, planning and getting things done. All of us like to get things done; however we all have different ways of doing them. If you are still frustrated with achieving the goals, I am going to ask you to look at a few things.

1. Most people set goals with no deadline. All of my goals have a due date (dead line). That way I can work backwards by looking at all the steps needed to reach the goal and time them out. I figure out how long each step takes and then I know when I have to start to reach my due date.

2. Most people do not break down the goal into steps. Each goal will have 3-10 steps to get it done. Any goal that is 1 or 2 steps is a task, not a goal. You are bigger than that. Go for something fantastic! Once you break down the steps or tasks to reaching the goal, how much time will you spend on them? There are times when I completely underestimate how much time it takes to get something done. Then there are times when I have planned out too much time and I was not being efficient. We need to become more in tune with how long it takes us to do something.

3. Most people do not block out time to do it. It?s not just about making a list of tasks, but when are you going to do it? When will you have 15 minutes in your day to deal with mail?

4. Most people multi-task. Multi-tasking is not good. I know it feels good, but really, it does not work. If you want to know the reasons why, here is a good article to begin with

What tools will help you be more efficient?

I recommend 2 things:

The Action Machine: This timer will help you keep track of how long it takes to get something done and help you limit time wasters. It even comes with bonus books on how to be more efficient. I personally use it and love this thing! Click here to get more info The Action Machine:

An Accountability Partner: This is not the same as a mastermind and it?s much easier to do. It?s free and only takes up 5 minutes a day. I have one I talk to for Daily goals and one and talk to about weekly goals. The person I talk to about my weekly goals deals more with my web goals and is responsible for helping me get things like www.beontvatsea.com done. We talk about 30-45 minutes.

If you want to know how work with an accountability partner, read this blog post.

So tell me, what are you going to do this month?

Do You Want Black Canary Barbie?

Black Canary Barbie is Filth?

Black Canary Barbie is available this September, anyone who wants to send me one for my birthday is welcome to, I just want to say that upfront.

Religious group Christian Voice said: "Barbie has always been on the tarty side and this is taking it too far. A children’s doll in sexually suggestive clothing is irresponsible — it’s filth."

Don’t they realize that making this statement will almost insure the sell-out of Black Canary Barbie? I bet Mattle will handle the sell out better than Apple did with IPhones. Black Canary Barbie is based on the DC comic book hero. Mattle lost a lot of money on Speed Racer, they had to do something!

So, What do you think? Is BC Barbie wrong? Would you buy it for your kid? Would you buy it for another adult? Is this sublte AntiEntrepreneurism working? Or is this just some lame PR to get sales heated up?
