A recent article on REUTERS by By Ellen Wulfhorst, she wrote that the financial woes of Starbucks was making people happy. People who believe in supporting small business were glad to see some Starbucks close down. Some felt they went too big too fast. Some said they helped raise the coffee culture to the height it stands at now but was too big itself and seemed to be on every corner |
One person even complained that it is suddenly NOT a cool brand. The complainers go on to say they once they went corporate, they commoditized the cafe culture.
The article goes on to say :
The company that began as innovative is now known for consistency and convenience, she said. "To me, that’s a huge step down," she said. "You’ve built your franchise on people who are coming in because they know exactly what they want."

Now, I will admit, I do not eat the breakfast sandwhiches because none of the the 3 that I purchased were not made correctly, they were hot on the end and frozen in the middle. I bought them at the drive-thru, so I figure that is my punishment for not eating a good breakfast. However, the attitude noted in this article is pure Antientrpreneurism. They got big too fast? Who are you to limit the growth of another business?
It seemed to be on every corner? Why is that a problem? People must not realize how much they saved on advertising. If you see the Starbucks sign 3 times just to go around the corner and get gas, they didnt have to pay for TV or Magazine ads that day. You got the message.
Starbucks have some internal problems with calculation, they are opening more stores in Europe and closing stores here. That does not make sense to be however, since the stock of Starbucks is going down, I might buy more of it.
But fast growth is not a reason to HATE Starbucks!
